Why Join
We are a volunteer organization of concerned brothers and sisters who share a love of riding and a belief in personal rights. People of all colors, creeds and nationalities united by a common goal: The freedom to ride safely, with dignity and without hassles. Although our work is important, the MMA is not all work! We have a variety of good- time annual events such as our 3-day Fall Round Up, Bike Raffle, Valentine's Day Party, Annual Christmas Party, Lacey Packer Toys For Local Children Run, Storm the Statehouse Lobbying Day, as well as monthly District and County meetings.
With new, vigorous and openly discriminatory assaults on motorcycling freedoms appearing as bills on Senate and House floors across our state and nation, it is critical now more than ever that every motorcyclist support an active rider's rights group.
In the State of Massachusetts that group is The Massachusetts Motorcycle Association. Since 1975, we have been representing motorcyclists' best interests at the State House, Registry of Motor Vehicles, Insurance Commission, Governor's Highway Safety Bureau and other government agencies. We have acquired a record for being effective, and a reputation for being informed, credible and influential.
MMA active volunteer members work hard to correct misconceptions and eliminate stereotypes attributed to motorcyclists by educating the general community through our charitable works, such as canned food collections, adult and children's charities, and our highly acclaimed Lacey Packer Memorial Toys for Local Children Run.
From 1975 through 2000, we were known as the Modified Motorcycle Association. We changed the name to better represent all motorcyclists here in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The MMA is the voice of all Massachusetts Motorcyclists no matter what motorcycle we ride!
Our dues are nominal and our tasks are monumental. As a not-for-profit corporation we need your support! An organization of volunteers fighting for motorcyclist rights need a strong, large membership to win the battle against a much larger, more powerful, and better-funded foe. Become an active part of your future and join now! Then make it your MMA! You Decide. It's Your Ride. It's Your Rights.
Examples of Winning the Fight
MMA has successfully applied for and won $15,000 grants from Plymouth Rock Insurance Corporation to promote motorcycle safety and awareness. In 2007 alone, grant funds purchased five hundred signs that were installed in highly visible areas of 150 cities across Massachusetts encouraging drivers to "Check Twice!" This has become an annual effort and is a primary example of how our volunteer members partner with organizations and provide leadership in communities to promote safety and rider's rights.

MMA successfully negotiated a 5% Discount for its membership with participating divisions of Plymouth Rock Assurance Corporation since 2007. Discounts include autos and motorcycles.
MMA conducts volunteer sound testing at independent events as well as in conjunction with the Registry of Motor vehicles to help educate our motorcyclist about the nuances of the testing procedure and related laws. If your club or organization is interested contact your local MMA District Manager or County Representative.
MMA kick-started the Annual Toys for Tots drive for the 28th year with our 13th Annual Lacey Packer Memorial Toy Run in 2002.
The MMA successfully introduced the bills that were enacted for qualifying riders to receive veteran and handicap plates from the RMV.
MMA achieved a roll back of the State's Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Period -- originally only in May -- to be observed from the last week of March through April. MMA supports States Motorcyclists Rights Organizations (SMRO) to strengthen the national voice of all motorcyclists.
In past years, MMA helped to protect riders' rights by successfully working to defeat legislation for mandatory lights-on, full-face helmets, horsepower limitations, and passenger age limits.
